Wildlife officials in Georgia say a bear cub recently spotted with a plastic pretzel jug stuck on its head has been safely assisted and released.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Resources Division said Friday that a young bear cub “caused quite the stir” in Rabun County recently, prompting more than 15 calls from concerned residents reporting the cub had a plastic pretzel container stuck over its head.
The agency said a biologist was able to locate the bear cub and rescue it from the plastic jug, before safely releasing the animal back into the wilderness.
“Shoutout to the biologist and wildlife technician who safely captured the bear, removed the container, and released it unharmed,” the agency said.
Wildlife officials are reminding residents and visitors to be Bear Wise and ensure all attractive food sources including trash and recycling are safely secured from bears.
