A pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Ohio, driven by alleged armed robbers wanted in Kentucky, prompted a shelter-in-place order Monday that ended when the driver was found hiding in a sewer, officials said.
The Springboro Police Department said an officer spotted a stolen white Toyota Sienna traveling on State Route 741 near Pennyroyal Road at around 8:47 a.m. Monday and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled, however, prompting a pursuit that was joined by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect vehicle entered I-675 northbound and exited onto State Route 725 before crashing at the intersection of SR 725 and Paragon Road. Two occupants fled on foot, but the passenger was apprehended at the scene.
At that point, police learned that both suspects were wanted for aggravated robbery and assault in Franklin, Ky. A search of the vehicle revealed firearms and ammunition, prompting a shelter-in-place order. Businesses and schools in the area were temporarily locked down while authorities continued searching for the driver.
Springboro Police and the Montgomery County SWAT Team launched a search of the area using drones and K-9 units, and ultimately found the driver, identified as 18-year-old Trevor Walker, hiding in a storm drain.
Photos shared by the sheriff’s office show deputies pulling a soaking wet and filthy Walker out of the sewer.
“We want to thank K-9 Max, K-9 Bart, and K-9 Riggs for their outstanding work on helping to track this suspect down,” the sheriff’s office said.
The case remains under investigation by Springboro Police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky.
