Authorities in Colorado removed more than 70 dogs and cats from a home this week following a disturbing discovery of suspected animal cruelty and neglect.
At approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers from the Northglenn Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence near Wyco Park as part of an ongoing investigation into reported animal mistreatment. Upon entering the property, officers found dozens of animals living in what were described as unsanitary and undesirable conditions. The severity of the scene prompted an urgent call for assistance from neighboring law enforcement and animal welfare agencies.
By Thursday, animal control officers had removed over 70 dogs and cats from the home. Two animals — a dog and a cat — were found dead inside the residence.
All surviving animals have been transported to area shelters for medical evaluations and temporary housing. Authorities say the pets will remain in the care of shelter staff while the investigation continues.
“We are grateful to community members who alerted us to this issue and to partnering agencies for their support in this tragic and heartbreaking case,” the police said in a statement Thursday.
The homeowner is facing criminal charges, though details about the specific allegations have not yet been released. The investigation remains active.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Northglenn Police Department at 303-450-8892.
