Meg Ryan hasn’t had a regular beau in many years, according to a source who says the longtime rom-com queen is still enjoying secret hookups — including steamy trysts with trendy New York City hipsters sent her way by good friend and collaborator Lena Dunham.
The When Harry Met Sally sweetheart, 63, is returning to the genre she once ruled, with director, screenwriter and coproducer Lena’s upcoming Good Sex, also featuring Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo.
Filming has already begun in the Big Apple, and sources say Meg’s favorite stomping ground will now be her romping ground.
“Meg isn’t just linking up with Lena and her new movie to pad out her filmography. There’s something a little deeper at work,” an insider shares.
“It really comes down to Meg expanding her horizons and her social circle. Lena and her entire family run in a very interesting art-first circle that is incredibly intriguing to Meg and will expose her to interesting new people.”
The insider notes that Ryan has “an incredibly open-minded approach to dating and hookups,” but one of her requirements is a partner being an “interesting person,” who doesn’t necessarily need to be a celebrity.
“She has become a supreme master of no-strings-attached dating — and never goes into these situations hell-bent on finding a partner for life,” the insider adds.
As the National Enquirer previously reported, Meg’s last long-term relationship was with “Jack & Diane” rocker John Mellencamp, 73. The on-again, off-again couple dated from 2010 to 2014, rekindled their romance in 2017 and got engaged a year later. But in 2019, Meg ended their engagement — and the pair split for good.
The You’ve Got Mail cutie was previously wed to actor Dennis Quaid, 71, father of her 33-year-old son, The Boys’ Jack Quaid. She’s also mom to daughter Daisy, 21, who she adopted in 2006.
According to the source, working with Lena, 39, and Natalie, 44, is opening new romantic avenues for Meg.
The insider confides, “Like some of her classic rom-com characters, she’s just looking for an amazing experience. It simply wouldn’t be worth her time or energy if it wasn’t!”
