Jennifer Aniston can’t let go of her competitive streak toward rival Sarah Jessica Parker amid season 3 of And Just Like That, according to a source.
“Jen has always felt that AJLT has a bit of a stink on it, and to be fair, at the moment, The Morning Show is still the critics favorite of the two streaming series,” a source close to Aniston exclusively tells the National Enquirer. “But that doesn’t stop Jen from taking shots wherever she can at what some see as a blatant cash grab by Sarah Jessica and her Sex And The City veteran costars.”
Aniston, 56, is “very proud” that she and her other costars from Friends didn’t go the sequel series or movie route with the show and “moved on to other projects,” the source explains, adding that AJLT is “not her cup of tea at all.”
“There’s actually a ton of overlap with [The Morning Show] that Jen is reacting to as well, since both series try to take an unflinching look at the personal and professional lives of middle-aged women in New York City,” continues the source, “but everybody knows that what’s really underlying all this nastiness is the direct rivalry Jen has seen herself in with Sarah Jessica since the late ’90s, when they were the two sexiest stars on TV.”
While neither actress has confirmed a genuine feud between them publicly, they were both well known for playing strong female lead roles in television in the late ’90s and early 2000s amid the immense success of Friends and Sex and the City, and according to the source, they continue to “jockey against each other for magazine covers, endorsement deals, social media hype and career success.”
“It’s still a battle for Jen,” the source concludes.
Last year, an insider dished to Closer that Aniston and Parker, 60, have “met plenty of times” throughout their careers, but they simply “never clicked.”
“After Friends and Sex and the City ended, they were up for a lot of the same movie roles, which only added to the competition between them,” the insider shared. “They both said catty things about each other and of course the gossip traveled.”
The insider further claimed that one of Parker’s “biggest stresses” over AJLT at the time was that The Morning Show did “much better” with critics and fans that year.
“She came in with the intention to show Jen up,” the insider said, “and it just didn’t happen.”
