Two men are facing dozens of charges after authorities in Georgia uncovered a cache of homemade explosive devices during separate searches this week.
Daryl Stamey Sr., 56, and Steven Gray, 64, were arrested in connection with the discovery and manufacture of the devices, Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King announced Thursday.
The investigation began on the morning of July 15, when Rome Police Department officers executed an unrelated search warrant at a commercial facility on Hull Avenue. During the search, they discovered what appeared to be homemade explosive devices and immediately contacted the State Fire Marshals Office, the Floyd County Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for assistance.
Stamey was arrested at the scene and charged with 23 counts of possession of an explosive device.
The following day, investigators acting on new information obtained a search warrant for Gray’s residence, where it was reported the explosive devices were being produced. Authorities located additional explosive devices and bomb-making materials at the property. These materials were safely disarmed and removed by law enforcement.
Gray was arrested and charged with 23 counts of manufacturing explosive devices.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted jointly by the State Fire Marshals Office, Rome Police Department, Floyd County Police Department, and the ATF.
