Four people and a dog were rescued from a fast-moving Arizona river amid monsoon storms on Thursday, officials said.

The Tucson Fire Department said crews were dispatched to a swift water rescue in the Santa Cruz River near Prince Road at around 2:47 p.m. Thursday, and arrived on scene within three minutes. Engine 8, the first to arrive, reported two people and a dog were stranded on islands in the middle of the river.

“The Technical Rescue Team from Station 4 formed a wedge formation to walk into the river, which was above the knee and moving fast, to rescue the two people and their dog,” the fire department said. Rescuers used a throw bag to retrieve a third person from the water. A bystander helped a fourth person out of the water, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.

Photos shared by the fire department shows people and the dog stranded in the fast-moving waters. The river also appears to be carrying a lot of debris. Northwest Fire Rescue District assisted in the rescue.

It is monsoon season in Arizona, and severe thunderstorms moved through the area Thursday, with the National Weather Service warning of flash flooding.

“The monsoon is here,” the fire department said. “Please be safe and avoid flooded washes, rivers and roadways!”
