A boat operator in California is facing charges after allegedly crashing a boat into the USS Midway Museum while drunk last week, officials said.
The Port of San Diego Harbor Police this week announced the arrest of 40-year-old Frank DAnna on charges of boating under the influence, hit and run, and operating a vessel with a blood alcohol content over .08.
The incident occurred shortly before noon on Friday, July 18, when the 65-foot motor vessel Offshore Lifestyle collided “head-on” with the port side hull of the USS Midway, which operates as a museum on the downtown waterfront. No injuries were report aboard the Midway or the Offshore Lifestyle.
After the crash, the Offshore Lifestyle fled the scene, and was later located near the Coronado Ferry Landing in San Diego Bay. Officers spoke with all seven individuals on board to identify the operator as DAnna.
The Offshore Lifestyle was impounded according to protocol, Harbor Police said. The investigation is ongoing.
