Authorities in Florida say a coyote named “Wile E.” is recovering after a “looney” incident last week left him wedged in the front grille of a vehicle that struck him.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report last week that an animal had run out in front of a vehicle at night, and got stuck in the front bumper after it was struck.
“That animal turned out to be a coyote, which we appropriately named Wile E.,” the sheriff’s office said.
Photos shared by the sheriff’s office show the coyote tightly wedged between the vehicle’s front bumper and grille. A deputy and Wildlife Center of Southwest Florida Rescue and Transport personnel can be seen carefully removing the animal from the vehicle for transport.
“Wile E. needed medical attention (apparently anvils don’t hurt, but vehicles do),” the sheriff’s office said, referencing the classic “Looney Tunes” cartoons featuring the crafty coyote frequently falling victim to his own traps and weapons as he tries to catch the Road Runner.
An evaluation revealed Wile E. sustained two broken legs on his left side, but is expected to make a full recovery.
