Federal agents in Los Angeles intercepted hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine concealed within a shipment of solar panels destined for New Zealand, officials said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Monday announced that officers at Los Angeles International Airport found nearly 300 pounds of meth hidden in a shipment of solar panels that was bound for New Zealand. CBP said the shipment was flagged “based on prior intel” and intercepted before it was exported.
Photos shared by CBP show officers peeling back layers of foil to reveal drugs hidden within the panels.
“We do this every day. These ‘criminal masterminds’ never stood a chance,” the agency wrote alongside the photos on social media.
CBP did not say whether any arrests had been made in connection with the smuggling attempt.
