Two California parents are facing charges after their toddler daughter was found wandering alone and barefoot on train tracks, authorities said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department said deputies responded at around 6 a.m. Sunday to the area Broadway Street and L Street in Needles, near the state’s border with Arizona and Nevada, after a caller reported seeing a young child with no shoes walking over a railroad overpass alone.
Deputies arrived and located the 2-year-old girl shortly before her parents arrived. While being questioned by deputies, the girl’s parents, identified as 48-year-old Bradley Underwood and 30-year-old Sara Estrada, allegedly “displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a central nervous system stimulant.”
A search warrant was executed at the parents’ residence, and “additional evidence” was found, the sheriff’s office said.
Underwood was arrested and booked into the Colorado River Station jail on charges of child abuse and violation of post release community supervision. He remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department with no bail. Estrada was arrested and booked into the Colorado River Station jail on a charge of child abuse. She remains in custody with a bail of $50,000.
Child Protective Services took custody of the child.
