Far-right activist and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer buys a new outfit every time she meets President Donald Trump, "hyper conscious" of the value he places on physical appearance, according to a lengthy New York Times report, which detailed her obsession with the president.
The Tucson, Arizona, native gained national notoriety for her wild and often racist conspiracy theories over 9/11 and the 2020 election. But the Times report shed new light on the MAGA influencer, including her troubled upbringing, struggle with binge eating and battle with severe anxiety and depression as a child.
“If anybody is a victim, it’s me,” Loomer told the Times about her childhood. “I was subjected to a lot of adversities that a lot of other people would not have been able to overcome, and I’m proud of myself for that. I think I did a good job.”
Her parents divorced when she was 11 and one of her younger brothers had to be repeatedly hospitalized “due to uncontrollable behavior problems." He attacked their mother, had to be placed into a group home, and a decade later tried to choke his father to death, according to the report.
Loomer, now 32, said that she struggled with obesity as a teen, often weighing more than 200 pounds, and “used to cry in the bathroom” because fashionable clothes didn't fit.
As an adult, she has slimmed down to 125, the Times noted, and she's well aware of the premium Trump places on looks.
"Picking at her scallops, which she ordered despite her fondness for steak, Ms. Loomer added, 'I’ve got to stay thin,'" she told the Times.
To boot, Loomer said she has to go shopping every time she sees Trump.
"And she’s hyper-conscious of the value Mr. Trump places on appearance. 'Every time I go and see the president,' she said, 'I always buy a new outfit, because I want to look my best.'"
